About the band

Vocalist Bill Zavala is the founder of the Zavala Soul Jazz Posse. Native to Placentia, CA Bill has fronted talent laden bands since the 1970’s. One of the first was The Mike Reilly Band (Greg Allman Band, Elvin Bishop) which included Kid Ramos (Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Harmon). Bill started the Lido Club Band in 1989 and performed for 30 years. In 1998 Bill’s band Luna, opened for Buena Vista Social Club the year they won a Grammy. Bill current band the Zavala Soul Jazz Posse was formed in 2017 and continues to perform regularly throughout Orange County, CA.

Guitarist Stu Goodis began playing guitar at age 13. After graduating Neupauer Conservatory of Music in Philadelphia he studied with guitarists Pat Martino and Steve Giordano. He relocated to Southern California where he began teaching and performing regularly. It was then that he began composing and producing music for television and film. In 1995, 1996 and 1997 he received multiple Emmy Awards for musical composition. Since then Stu led the jazz trio “On The Mile” and released the album/cd “Different Lines”. In 2011 Stu formed a duo with guitarist Tom Glenn and released four albums/cds and performed at the Falmouth Jazz Festival on Cape Cod. In addition to being a member of the Soul Jazz Posse Stu also performs original music with the band “RedShift“.

Keyboardist Doug Brandon was born and raised in Southern California Doug had performed locally and toured with Bobby Caldwell, The Righteous Brothers, Aretha Franklin and John Davidson. Doug also held a 10 year tenure at Disneyland performing on the Tomorrow Land Terrace. Doug has 3 Emmy awards for Musical Composition with an extensive list of credits.

Bassist Alfonso “Fonze” Garcia, a Los Angeles native, has been a driving force on the bass for over three decades. Starting his musical journey at 10 with guitar and drums, he was unexpectedly asked to play bass at 14, a decision that quickly ignited his passion. The bass soon became his true calling leading him to study at Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. Fonze has performed with top artists like Justo Almario (J.Lo), Leon Patillo (Santana), Bob Wilson (Seawind), Rique Pantoja (Chet Baker), Francisco Loyo (Luis Miguel), and Tiki Pasillas (Marc Anthony). His talent has taken him on tours worldwide, where his groove continues to captivate audiences.

Drummer Mike Brucher is a native of Orange County. He has 30+ years of performing experience with a wide variety of bands. He brings a style to ZSJP like no other drummer. His influences come from years of performing rock, funk. soul, dance, jazz and big band music. His company Aquarian Drum Heads sells percussion and drum heads world-wide.
